Terrence McGee in Talks To Re-sign…Is That a Good Thing?
August 30th, 2009 | by armchair31 |Buffalo is in talks to resign CB Terrence McGee. Although Buffalo has historically let go of their most talented corners (Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements, Jabari Greer), Buffalo seems poised to make sure that doesn’t happen again. The question fans should be asking is not when this will go down, but why now? McGee is being transitioned out of the return game so his usefulness in that area will be irrelevant. He is not as strong a tackler as Antoine Winfield was and still is. McGee is not as good an all around defender as Nate Clements. McGee and Greer are similar in talents, but Greer has a bit more height. So again why now?
It isn’t that I don’t like McGee, it is that my feeling is that he is a better nickel back. I know I won’t win any fans by knocking on McGee, but although a fan favorite, can we not find better rather than spend money unwisely? I also think the Bills would be better served to find a more prototypical CB to be opposite the developing Leodis McKelvin. With WRs getting bigger and stronger a 5′9″ starting corner will not cut it. Cornerbacks are actually the second highest paid position in the NFL behind Quarterbacks. It would make sense at this point to spend that money wisely.
As the Bills look to maintain some continuity with their DBs, the question still remains why do this now. Why keep arguably the least talented CB out of the big four that I mentioned? It appears to be another case of Buffalo settling, and when someone settles no one wins. The best case scenario for Buffalo will be to let McGee go and either draft, sign or trade for a CB this upcoming of season. Buffalo, don’t make the mistake we made with Chris Kelsay.
