Schonert out, Van Pelt in

September 4th, 2009 | by armchair31 |

So one day after I blamed the offensive woes on Buffalo’s coaching and really nothing else, the Bills have sacked offensive coordinator Turk Schonert.  With an offense that has been lethargic at best, the Bills are choosing to go in a different direction.  The problem is that the direction they are choosing to go is almost as questionable as Schonert’s initial hiring.  The Bills will be going forward with QB coach and offensive understudy Alex Van Pelt.  I like Alex Van Pelt, the player.  Alex Van Pelt the offensive coordinator is another story.

Van Pelt does not have a sports pedigree by any stretch of the imagination.  Although he does have starting NFL experience, he was by no means a great NFL QB.  The Bills better hope that the old phrase, “those who can’t do, teach,” applies to Van Pelt.  The good news for Van Pelt is, there is no way he can make the offense any worse.  Although I do agree with the firing of Schonert and understand the hiring of Van Pelt, I have still yet to fully comprehend what allows coach Jauron to keep his job?  Also, did the Bills really think that replacing one coordinator who had no idea what they were doing with another is really a step in the right direction?  I hope they roll 7’s on this one.

Let’s see what Alex can infuse into this offense in order to score a touchdown.  I just want one, please.  What’s Ironic about the Buffalo Bills is that the media thought Terrell was going to be the biggest distraction.  Good call.
