Year End Review: The Offensive Summary
January 2nd, 2010 | by armchair31 |Buffalo’s grades on offense are as follows:
Quarterback – F+
Running Back – B-
Receivers – D+
Offensive Line – F
The Buffalo Bills had a tough time on offense this year and it is not hard to see why. They fired their unproductive offensive coordinator toward the end of training camp and replaced him with inexperienced QB coach Alex Van Pelt. Buffalo also put together one of the worst and most inexperienced offensive lines in recent NFL memory. The good news for next year is that Buffalo does still have some very talented players to rebuild this roster from, provided they aren’t completely sour on Buffalo management for the product that was put on the field and sidelines this season.
Their biggest dilemma will be what to do at running back as they have a proven starting running back, and a high priced back up in Marshawn Lynch. Buffalo is also in need of a LT with experience and a wide receiver once Terrell Owens leaves. Oh, let’s not forget that Buffalo is still without a starting QB.
But, Buffalo does have some bright spots. They have 4/5 of an offensive line that should come back healthy and with experience under their belt. They still have a deep threat in Lee Evans, and a running back that can have a very big season next year. Buffalo has the foundation to rebuild this team very well provided they are systematic and patient with their approach. The offensive line is young and will be in tact for years to come. Jackson is older but should have 4-5 years due to very little wear and tear on his body.
I am optimistic with the future of the Buffalo Bills, but they do need to find an offensive coordinator with experience. Buffalo has been going about this process the wrong way as the coach doesn’t need to have experience, so long as the coordinators do. Although next year should see Buffalo lose again, Buffalo fans are happy as long as we can see that we are headed in the right direction and remain competitive. It appears that we do have the pieces to do so, now we just need the personnel.
